Aldrin did not have the camera; all the photos you see of the first moon landing are of Aldrin. In the famous "Moon Man" photo (used by MTV for their award logo) the astronaut is Aldrin, but you can see a reflection of Armstrong in Aldrin's helmet.

I always thought there were cameras mounted on the rover/shuttle/whatever-vessel, and that's how they took the photo.
