In the end, even this solution is more efficient than directly powering the bus with a combustion engine. For instance: the engine does not has to waste gas while waiting at a traffic light. I'm not saying it's a huge difference, but all little bits help.

That way, you can reduce emissions in the city, which I think especially in Mexico City, could be a big deal.

I see what you're saying about separating the idea of emissions and transportation, however, this isn't the solution, especially in Mexico City. Proper and reliable public transportation , stringent emission control devices on all internal combustion engines will be more beneficial than EV's and more realistic.
