#21 Federal regulations caused this, CAFE standards. The smaller pickups are treated as cars, but cannot possibly get as good mileage, so they cause huge fines on the company.

Truth is the smaller trucks are just not "John Wayne" enough for the jerk offs that call themselves men in my town. Four doors, plastic bed liners, plastic covers and empty. Construction contractors around here show up in some shiny new beast, give me an estimate for work then send a couple Mexicans who drive beat up trucks to do the work. SUVs and trucks do not have to be as safe as passenger cars and they aren't as they go around getting 14 miles per gallon.
