I took up cooking new things from scratch (in cluding bread of course), so I wouldn't have to go outside as much. That new level of self-reliance felt and feels pretty wholesome.

Imagine thinking you have a secure government job only to discover it may be gone, just like those who work in other industries. Don't be so quick to judge. The mother could have been shot by a hunter. Those fawns were probably found huddled and hungry beside its corpse. Adults just don't surreptitiously bring large wild animals to their house unless there's a very logical reason to do so. Some do...most don't.
