#44 - those little "hairs" are dendrites. Between dendrites are synapses which is where electrical signals occur as you think and function. When you get a neurodegenerative disease like Alzheimer's or Parkinson's little misfolded proteins get in between the dendrites (in the synapse) and block the electrical signal between dendrites. Over times the blockage can get so bad that you lose your memory and can even die from it. Fasting can help clean those misfolded proteins up and certain enzymes.
