What I always found amazing about the internet was how quickly it became high speed. I was doing internet support back in the mid 90s supporting 14.4k (and up) dial up modems. Back then a T1 (1.544 Mbps) was so amazing - only business had them. Now there is Gig (1,000 Mbps) fiber coming in to our houses.

#13 what a fake download window. downloading from a local network address, at a speed of around 60Mbit.

remember that the fastest dial-up modems (56k) would download around 8Kb/s

“My family got a WebTV box in the ’90s. We were all sitting in the living room, figuring it out. We found a site that said it would take our photo, so we gathered on the couch in front of the TV and smiled while a countdown ticked away. When it hit zero, the screen flashed and then said to wait a moment for our photo to be processed.

We all thought this was pretty cool. After a moment, the photo loaded, and it was a picture of a chimp. That’s when we realised that it didn’t have some hidden built-in camera and we’d been had.”
