To all the whiners here: notice that most of these are professional head shots and images from movies. Those which are not professional photos are mostly of special events, for which some of these ladies would get their hair 'done'. Most women did not walk around 24/7 with these kinds of labor-intensive coifs.

Look at whatever the extreme styles are in your world; notice how few people wear them. That's about how many women in the 60s would have these hairdos.
