"A couple decided to rebuild their deserted piece of land of 600 hectares in Aimorés, Brazil. They planted more than 2 million tree saplings. As a result, the site has 293 plant species, 172 bird species and 33 animal species, some of which were on the verge of extinction. Took 18 years"

#4 When I was doing tree work in the 80s, there was a blight going up and down the east coast, killing Norway Maples. Tree guys were saving them by the tens of thousands, mostly by cutting them back severely hard. Home owners didn't like the look of them at first, but over the years, they thanked us. I could probably go back there now and find trees still thriving, after being so close to dying that even we didn't always know if they'd make it.
You've had some nice lists up lately - lists of historic events and images, and other creative ideas. I've had some tabs open to them for a couple weeks, and have sent the links to friends. More of this please.
