yep as a woodworker i agree. wood is definitely not the same. i heard even since the 70s and 80s. no more old growth forests are harvested. it's all processed so fast nowadays. and 2x4s are shrinking. they aren't even close to that
Both are Douglas Fir. One is old growth the other is farmed for maximum growth (Planted spaced apart), that's why the growth rings are so big.
From wood stove experience, farmed Doug Fir is good for kindling and old growth burns like oak, hot, slow and little ash.
