Calm down, how to you know they don’t recycle the plastic after use. Using each piece once is the point. That machine must be expensive, so whatever they are protecting must be worth it. What if they are protecting some medical device? Would you want an implant that is dirty from debris from someone shoes?

Amy, i have seen and used this machine at my dentist laboratory, and is ok. Is only a plastic sheet. Others have complicated (still plastic) shoes with elastic bands.
