it didn't. That's why cell phones are called cell phones. They need cell towers to work. It worked on the AMPS system, which used the 850MHz band. Yes, analouge, no, not CB frequency range. Elly probably mixed that with wireless land line phones, which operated in that frequency range (and therefore had those ridicously long antennas).
