#3-The sad poster forgot to mention his wages also went up proportionally to the rent. People that were paying 4 bucks a month were making anywhere for 10 to 43 cents an hour. How much is that knucklehead making now?

#9 Most people could use the bookkeeping class with the way the young generations go into debt and can't afford anything. Knowing how to budget and save is important.

Petronella, I know someone who worked her way through college within the last ten years. You children need to stop acting like impossible to do that. ...Also, as a result of medical problems, I became homeless more than once in my 20s and 30s, but I continued to pay my student loan - while homeless. One of those times, I was homeless for two solid years. But I paid my loan off. Stop your crying, you spoiled little children.

#3 a new York apartment was 16$ per month. A room, not an apartment, is now 2000$ a month. That's 125 times more rent. The average income in the US in 1930 was 1388$. This would be an average (!) income of 175,000$ today if rent and income grew in the same rate. The average income today is at round about 80,000$

#4 Village People: violence. I've been laid low with a migraine for about a week, with no sign of letting up. But this actually made me smile. I mean, every time I do the YMCA dance, I get so worked up I just wanna, I dunno, punch my pillow or something really hard.
#8 I knew a guy whose mother - a respected attorney - was thrown out of court for wearing slacks in court. She later became DA for the city, which at the time was the 3rd largest in the US. (btw: 'pants' was still probably not as common a term; they were more likely called slacks for women or trousers for men. To this day, 'pants' in much of the English-speaking world refers to underwear, ie panties)

I visited Dachau as a teenager on an exchange program in high school. 50 year later, it is still numbing. ...btw: in the 90s, when Rush Limbaugh was at the height of his popularity, and when Fox news was emerging, I told people we were going to have our Hitler. I knew this because i talked to camp survivors who said that their oppression started with two things: jokes - such as the 'jokes' told by Limbaugh, and propaganda being disseminated as 'news', like on Fox. And here we are 30 years later; we have our Hitler.
