Great Bell Of Dhammazedi
Cast in 1484 by King Dhammazedi of Myanmar, the world’s largest bell hung at Shwedagon Pagoda until 1608, when it was stolen by Portuguese mercenary Philipe de Brito. On its journey to be melted down, the bell sank in the river, and despite numerous searches, its location remains unknown.

I was actually there the day before the robbery with my then girlfriend. I've always considered myself lucky to be one of the last people to see those stolen works in person.

The reason most stolen loot never turns up again is because it never existed. It's a police tactic to pass it off as larger. This is intended to sow discord within the gang, so that everyone feels betrayed by the other.
