It might be a lot longer, or you might just kill yourself because that is what both humans and animals have done after contact with that damnthing. A British soldier once wiped his butt with it during an execice and just pulled is gun and killed himself. The incredibly fine, glass-like needles of the leaves also stay toxic for years after the plant is dead.

#40 Not dangerous depending on the condition of the lava. Normal cultural practice in many places. Just because volcanos have gasses, doesn't mean EVERY volcano has them, or that a simple pyriclastic flow is deadly.
