It might be a lot longer, or you might just kill yourself because that is what both humans and animals have done after contact with that damnthing. A British soldier once wiped his butt with it during an execice and just pulled is gun and killed himself. The incredibly fine, glass-like needles of the leaves also stay toxic for years after the plant is dead.

#40 Not dangerous depending on the condition of the lava. Normal cultural practice in many places. Just because volcanos have gasses, doesn't mean EVERY volcano has them, or that a simple pyriclastic flow is deadly.
“It’s been fine since I shoved all that stuff in it.” -Parental Unit that’s responsible Redneck ingenuity at its finest. It’s been like this for at least 15 years. sigh Yes, it’s finally failing and being replaced. Yes, sparks fly at random times. Yes, I’m disappointed.
