I've heard this expression a lot, but what exactly does this insult "go touch grass" actually mean to convey? Seems like something nice to do. I mean, is it just what people who are too afraid to say real insults use? Like, "go pound sand" or "Go to H-E-double hockey sticks?" WTF?
#33 These (and similar) were used by moonshiners in the USA during prohibition as a means to fool government tax agents, commonly referred to as 'revenuers'. Despite alcohol production being illegal at the time, rather than law enforcement officials it was the revenuers who did most of the investigation into it as it was easier to prove tax fraud than it was to prove who was making hooch as the stills were often hidden deep in the woods. These "cow shoes" made it hard for revenuers to track the people, obviously because the made hoof prints instead human footprints. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
