#10. Total BS. Rosa Parks worked for the local NAACP office. They recruited her to get on the bus and refuse to give up her seat. That's not to say that it wasn't an honorable act. But, it wasn't a spontaneous refusal; it was planned and staged so they could start a boycott.

#17 Wow. Wong on so many points.

Lee's orders to Hill were lost by a courier who was on his way to deliver them to Hill.

The document was Lee's orders to Hill, which also showed the disposition of the Lee's units, NOT McClellan's.

And what made finding the plans historically significant was the fact that McClellan DIDN'T act on them in time to take advantage of them. In fact, that's why McClellan was relieved of command after the battle.

Talk about getting the story ass backwards!

Blanche, Welcome to iziland. Almost as much bs per square 'fact' than that draft-dodging pansy we have in the white house.

#20 As with many others, the information is very misleading. Hannibal actually did very well against the Romans after crossing the Alps. They did not expect him from that direction. For some reason he decided not to attack Rome itself, and that was his downfall. It gave Publius Scipio "Africanus" a chance to chase him back to Carthage where he beat his backside.

Austin,

What the description is about and what you're saying are two different things. Crossing the Alps was not without casualties for Hannibal, though I can't say whether this one, in particular, was so. He did replenish forces along the way, too.

Reggie,"Hannibal Created A Battle-Losing Avalanche By Striking A Snow Drift With A Walking Cane" If this avalanche even occurred, he lost zero battles because of it.

#1 - I worked on DSP which was the American equivalent of the Russian system that Stanislav Petrov was working on. Both sides were painfully aware of the the problems on launch detection in areas of heavy cloud cover. DSP went to the extreme of blanking all reporting in those areas. Stanislav Petrov has made a living of taking credit for something that both sides ignored.

"NASA’s Apollo 13 Scrubbing Protocol"

"When an oxygen tank exploded on Apollo 13, the crew faced deadly carbon dioxide buildup. Engineers on the ground had to quickly design a filter using only materials available on the spacecraft, like plastic bags and duct tape. This improvised, last-minute solution was successful and saved the astronauts' lives."
