#3 What I think is more shocking than this story is that Izi overlooked censoring "Hittites" since the word "tit" is right there. rofl

#24 I get why you didn't call it what it's actually known as, "The Rape of Nanking" because it would look like "The **** of Nanking." And, we all thank you for that.

#1 The author probably meant worldwide as most Americans I know are aware of this. Yet why would a person from Indonesia, India or Bhutan care?

#21 what's even worse is that the picture isn't representative. The lobotomy was done using the nose or eyes as entry point.

#1 People will soon completely forget about the massive genocide committed by the US during the gold rush. It was the largest in the history of the country: 300,000 men, women, and children were slaughtered. And it wasn't one or two big military campaigns; it was tens of thousands of regular citizens committing the same kind of extinction as that perpetrated by the Nazis, by Stalin, Lon Nol, et al. ...So now, we show 'respect' for the indigenous peoples by banning the naming of sports teams after them. Instead, we glorify the 49ers who slaughtered them by continuing to allow them to use that name. god bless Murca.

#3 "...every sophisticated culture fell apart...". Not the first time in history that happened. Not even close. What usually happens is that they either elected or fell prey to leaders such as Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Trump, et al. End of story. Education was discouraged or eliminated, as were personal rights and lawful government. Every time. Good luck to us all.

#24 Ironic, that the number of victims is the same as our Gold Rush. However, the words, 'I can't stop thinking about those poor innocent people' have probably not been spoken - or even thought - by any American in a hundred years. We are a shameful people.

"Krakatoa eruption.. absolutely huge. One of the loudest sounds ever heard, massive Tsunamis, ash filled the sky around the world for years causing red sunsets and darkness. Global temperatures dropped."

"The Maya and other Meso or South American cultures. Always new and interesting things being discovered. The event I used to be obsessed with was the "disappearance" of the Maya... except they didn't disappear and there are millions of Maya alive today, big misconception.I really like the work of Ed Barnhart after seeing a few of his series on The Great Courses.Wired Tech SupportHe also has a fun Podcast called ArchaeoED."
