#17 "The world can be so, so kind." Its inhabitants?...Not as much as they used to be. It takes a certain degree of age to see the difference. I feel lucky to have been born in the Summer of Love, a child in the 70's, a teen in the 80's, a young man in the 90's. There was so much unconditional kindness and respect with people in these decades. Unfortunately, 9/11 was the beginning of the end of all that, with the erosion of civil liberties and forced, political division by media, personal Narcissism and the perverse whims of the ruling elite. Now look at us. "Are you not entertained?!"
Jinsy, I'm sorry, but I'm sure meant to write: "...Thou mayst begynnen by amending thy grammar..."
Or maybe you meant: "...þu miht ongan mid þinum gramere to forþian...".
Because if you're going to be pedantic, why not go all the way, and use Middle English or Old English?
...You can start by admitting you're a jingoist, which is a form of narcissism. You believe that your grammar is the only grammar which exists, and that if someone doesn't speak the way you do, he or she is simply uneducated. ...The fact is that no language emerges in some pure form, which is later corrupted by heathens whom you do not understand or respect. A 'language' is nothing more than a cluster of dialects, all of which are valid forms of language. African-American Vernacular is a valid dialect, with patterns and rules which are observed as closely as in any other dialect of English. ...Also, all languages evolve. This means that the English you learned in high school will be substantially different than that which is taught now. Yes, you would be marked incorrect using your high school grammar on a test given later in your life. Do you think the world got up one day and said 'Hey, I know - let's change from Old English to Middle English'? No. English evolved from one form to another. Day by day, year by year, it changed - a letter at a time, a word at a time, a phrase at a time, until it became what you learned in high school. But it's different now. Get over yourself. Expecting others to speak the way you do is like expecting others to wear the same clothes, listen to the same music, cut their hair the same way, build their houses the same way, etc etc. You are not the center of the universe.
Jinsy, And another thing: the man is talking about trying to be a better person, and all you can do is chastise him in public on a time-wasting site for his grammar? You and your 4 downvoting friends are a small-minded, myopic narcissists. You are a disgrace. I'll take the guy trying to be a better person - no matter what his grammar is, because you clearly are not a person worthy of my time, attention, or respect.

...huh?
70s: Viet Nam; the Olympic massacre; Nixon; Son of Sam; wars, coups, assassinations all over the world, etc.
80s: the El Mozote Massacre(by a US-led group); Beirut barracks bombing; Pan Am Flight 103; more wars, coups, and assassinations all over the world
90s: same same same
Stop romanticizing the past. If you think the world was ever loving and kind, you're living in a fantasy.
Or maybe you meant: "...þu miht ongan mid þinum gramere to forþian...".
