Johnny, Wrong. If you fatigue guys, it doesn't matter if you give them breaks; they will eventually be fatigued beyond what any amount of rest will do for them. By keeping them from getting fatigued, you keep their speed and productivity up. I've dug more ditches than I could ever count. The few times I was able to convince a boss to let us use the two- or three-man system, we were able to work faster than three guys could work with rest breaks. Two guys working together were getting more digging done than three guys rotating with rests. We stayed fresh, not for a day or two, but for the entire week. Also, injuries disappeared.
