Hephsibah, It is a board game. You place your ships on a grid with coordinates, then each player "bombs" a coordinate in turn. You place pegs on each "hit" to keep track. The first to sink all enemy ships win.
Just a minor glitch, as non-english native speakers rarely use the term 19th or the in this case correct 20th century, but rather use terms like "the eighteen hundreds" or "the 1900's"
