Former Carolina Panthers wide receiver Rae Carruth is currently in prison for charges related to the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, Cherica Adams. In 1999, Adams was in her car when Carruth pulled his own vehicle in front of hers to block her. His friend Van Brett Watkins drove up in a third vehicle and shot Adams four times. She was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident, and after a month in a coma, she died from her injuries. Though not found guilty of first degree murder, Carruth was convicted conspiracy to commit murder and sentenced to 18-24 years in prison.

He responded, “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
