I've played both folkloric(popular) and classical music from all over the world, and all times in history. I can tell you that this can be done with all pop music from all over the world, and at all times in history. I've also heard it done with european classical music. (look up PDQ Bach). People have been listening to Hip Hop, Rap, Rock of all sorts, etc despite no significant technical changes in them for 45 to 70 years. You listen to your grandparents' music. ...Sit back and think of how many songs you can sing to the melody to House of the Rising Sun and Amazing Grace (try the Gilligan's Island theme song), or the rhythm and chord changes in Louie Louie, etc etc. Wake up; pop music has always been, and always will be, formulaic. ...For you musical nerds out there, Son Cubano can be played under almost everything we listen to in the West, from Cole Porter to 'Once Upon A Time There Was an Engineer' (Good n Plenty commercial). Sorry kids, some of us have been onto this amazing discovery for decades.
