Underground Data Center (26 pics)

Pionen is an underground data center that belongs to the biggest Swedish internet service provider Bahnhof. It is located 30 meters under the granite rocks. It was built in a former bomb shelter, thus it can withstand a direct attack with a hydrogen bomb. Two Maybach MTU diesel engines from a submarine are responsible for backup power supply. Together they produce 1.5 megawatts of power. The entrance doors are 40 cm thick. The place is surrounded with the granite and it just mesmerizes with its beauty.

This APC Back-UPS 600 did not work, so the owner took it to a service center. The workers there disassembled the device. And guess what was wrong with it? Believe me, service center employees were caught by surprise.

People in Argentina are introduced to the art of the nap. There is a special siesta zone called Siestario in Buenos Aires where stressed workers can take a 20-minute nap and catch up on relaxation. Siestario employees find music, aroma and colors to every client to help them relax.

Among its founders are Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kevin Spacey and John Cusack. The Center is about 65,000 sq ft and its cost is $70 million.

I just love the design of the building!

KidZania – The city of Children. Tokyo (12 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       18 Sep 2009       16934
KidZania is a Mexican chain of family entertainment centers currently operating in 6 locations.
Every KidZania is themed as a child-sized replica of a real city, including buildings, shops and theaters, as well as vehicles and pedestrians moving along its streets. In this city, children, aged 2 through 14, learn about the adult world, the value of money and work, by experiencing up to 70 different professions. Every “professional” activity lasts 30 minutes and parents don’t have the right to interrupt or to interfere in any other manner while their offspring is “working”.
It proofed to be so successful that the other Kidzanias appeared throughout the world. Tokyo was the third city to create a replica city for children in October 2006. The first year of operations had 905,000 visitors, and has been keeping steady.
So here are pictures from the Japanese KidZania!

Apartment for rent (15 pics)

Another Russian two-bedroom apartment for rent in Moscow. When I saw pictures I said to myself: it cannot be for real.
The rent is of about $ 1,000. It seems that the restoration works have never taken place since 1945. Who would agree to live in a place like that?

It’s painful to see that cars like that are going to be dismantled. I’d be glad to have one of those ;))
