Among the various other modes of transportation available in India, the luxury trains catch the limelight because of their service standards and opulence of luxury that they offer to the guests. Maharajas’ Express, the newest of the luxury trains has been laurelled with the title of ‘World’s Leading Luxury Train’ in a recent award ceremony by the organizers of World Travel Awards 2012. 
 

Launched in 2010 by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the Maharajas’ Express has introduced 5 new itineraries this year only. The itineraries include some of the most sought after tourist places from central, northern and north-western India including Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Ranthambore, Mumbai, Balasinor, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Fatehpur Sikri, Gwalior, Orcha, Khajuraho, Varanasi, Lucknow, Ajanta and Mumbai.
 

On board the train, history meets its modern counterpart. While the interior décor revive the medieval Indian era before us, the avant-garde amenities speak of its modern outlook. Owing to its pneumatic suspension system, which minimizes the jerks, the overnight journey becomes as relaxing as sleeping at your own home. There are four types of occupancies available on board including Deluxe Cabin, Suite, Junior Suite and Presidential Suite. The cabins are designed in a manner to accommodate every requirement without disturbing its spaciousness. Moreover, the Presidential Suite of Maharajas’ Express is the one and first of its kind in the world. The suite spans over an entire carriage and houses two bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms with bathtub in one and a living cum dining room.
 

For the foodies, the train journey is no less than a culinary delight. The two on board restaurants – Rang Mahal and Mayur Mahal, serve a variety of foods prepared from fresh seasonal ingredients. From continental, Oriental to Indian delights, the restaurants serve every variety cuisine in an awe-inspiring ambience. And if you wish, you can also taste some signature Rajasthani cuisines and desert varieties. There is also a bar car and a lounge car where guests can spend some leisurely hours out of the privacy of their rooms. In the bar, you will find a choicest collection of beverages including Indian and International brands.
 

The journey aboard Maharajas Express Luxury Train becomes all the more delightful with the souvenir shop housed inside the train. From there, you can buy beautiful mementoes, designer artifacts, decorative items and jewelries. Adding to the facilities is the service of the train staff who offers round the clock assistance to the guests. Keeping pace with the modern lifestyle, the train has designed its services, facilities and journeys so that the global travelers can explore the real culture, color and heritage of the country.
