Christian Åslund, a Swedish photojournalist who works with Greenpeace, has made a simple experiment. He took photos of glaciers in Svalbard, Norway from the Norwegian Polar Institute, which were taken almost a century ago and juxtaposed them with his own photos of the same places, which were taken in 2002. He's using the photo series to promote #MyClimateAction, a National Geographic campaign encouraging discussion about climate change, and there could be no better argument in their favor than these comparisons.

The winners of this year’s National Geographic Magazine Photo Competition has been announced and the photos, as always, are stunning. This year $10 000 was awarded to Brian Yen for winning the Grand Prize and a trip to the National Geographic headquarters where he will participate in its annual photography seminar. The categories are People, Nature and Places and the captions are written by the photographers themselves.
These are just some of the amazing photos that have been entered into National Geographic’s annual photo contest this year.
In 2050 people with a single race background will be in the minority. The following pictures made up by National Geographic with the help of photographer Martin Schoeller and Photoshop show us what the average mixed-ethnic American will look like in 2050.
