Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas has 23 dining venues onboard, serving around 30,0000 dishes daily. On busy weeks, there are almost 9,000 people (guests and crew) that need to be fed. More than 2,000 kilos of potatoes are consumed each day, as well as over 6,000 kilos of beef, more than 8,000 kilos of chicken, and 10,000 dozens of eggs per seven-day cruise. From chefs to dishwashers, a team of 1,850 people keeps passengers fed. And this is how it looks behind the scenes.

Once known to be the prides of the sea, these ships are now abandoned and forgotten by most of us because of uncontrolled circumstances such as lack of manpower and poor maintenance. The sad thing is these ships were never restored and were left to rot on sea or land. Take a look of the pictures below and see the sad fate of these once-beautiful ships.

How The Biggest Ships Were Built (36 pics)

Posted in PICTURES       15 Nov 2010       19389

The Batillus class supertankers are the largest vessels by gross tonnage ever built. There were 4 of them, each at 555,000 metric tons DWT, constructed by France in the 1970s. A gross tonnage of Batillus is 275,276 tons. Still, if considering fully-loaded displacement, the Batillus ships don’t hold the world’s record. They are edged out by the Seawise Giant ship that serves as an oil tanker. Still, the Batillus class ships are records for tankers (with the depth of 36 meters and full load draft of 28.5 meters), and, inside this post, you can see how these largest ships were built.

These amazing ships are all made of Legos. Most of them are large, some are small, and they are all realistic. It must have taken months for these amazing ships to be assembled. They are truly incredible works of art.

Atomic icebreakers in the Arctic (47 pics)

Here is a selection of those big ships built to cruise on ice-covered water by breaking through the ice with their strong, heavy, steel bows. You will maybe recognize among others the Arktika class icebreakers, the black and red ships with shark teeth painted on the bow.
Just impressive!
