These photos show just how beautiful, majestic, and powerful a volcano can be. The sights Mother Nature creates for us is awesome.
Erta Ale is a continuously active basaltic shield volcano in Ethiopia. It is 613 metres (2,011 ft) high, with one lava lake, one of only five in the world, at the summit.
It is notable for being the longest existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century (1906).
The name of the volcano means "smoking mountain" in the local Afar language and its southerly pit is known locally as "the gateway to hell"! Lovely…
Those are amazing pics, no more, no less…
Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Iceland. It is located in the south-east of the island, covering more than 8% of the country. With a size of 8,100 km², it is the largest glacier in Europe in volume (3,100 km³) and the second largest in area. The average thickness of the ice is 400 m, with a maximum thickness of 1,000 m. Under the glacier, as under many of the glaciers of Iceland, there are several volcanoes.
So here are some b/w pics of the largest glacier in Europe, don’t miss them, they are beautiful.
The eruption happened on a Russian island in the North Pacific.
Thank to the photographs taken from the space (actually from the ISS at 220 miles above the Earth), we can enjoy this magnificent event.
Beautiful and at the same time frightening shots of volcano eruption.
Amazing.
