quick answer is the plastics looks like the foods they eat (shellfish,starfish, fish, jellyfish,etc). for them its really hard to discern. this applies to sea turtles, sharks, whales, just about anything in the ocean really. and even if we throw our garbage in correct locations, who'se to say it actually makes it to where we think its going?
