December 20th marked the 150th Anniversary of the succession from the United States by South Carolina, the first state to succeed. That caused the beginning of the civil war.

Dec 22 marks the reopening of the Brandenburg Gate. The west and east meet and shook hands once again. The rest of the Berlin wall was demolished the following year.
