Accidents like these could be lessened and over time, eliminated if the auto manufacturers simply put electronic governors on the vehicles. There's no reason for anyone (even the police) to exceed 100 mph (or even 85 mph) on public roadways, yet there are cars that anyone (with enough money) can buy off the showroom floor that will go 200 mph. That's insane.
Having a car that can accelerate quickly (i.e. 0 - 60 mph) is fun and dangerous enough. Having one available to the general public that can go 150+ mph is just stupid.

Your still not going to eliminate high speed crashes, at 85 MPH you can still get head on crashes that are severely catastrophic.
