Totally irrelevant. Especially in various countries. It's cheaper in some countries to buy junk food, than it is to buy fresh produce.
No wonder the Western world looks as fat as they do.
I can buy 2 cheeseburgers for under $4 and that is a meal for two.
You try to cook a healthy meal for under $4 for two people.

also, spices, spent preparation time, power costs for stove or microwave, cleaning up (time and utilities), equipement needed for preparation...
even if I just take the time factor into account and I would get only like 5$/h this whole calculation is crap...

Boneless skinless chicken breasts for 98 cents?! GTFO. Where do you shop? Try 4+ bucks a pound. Where's your math now?

Uh here in the East Coast of the US we're at ~1.50 lb for chicken. http://www.bls.gov/ro3/apmw.htm <-avg food prices. Hey man that's your fault for living in NYC if chicken is 4/lb.

Sounds like a lot of you feel gulity for being so lazy as to buy fast food instead of making it yourself. I live in California where everything is overpriced and there is no walmart superstore, but I spend a few minutes finding whats on sale and stock up. I used to buy nothing but junk food in my youth, so I can say without a doubt that I save hundreds of dollars per month cooking at home. And Ive never felt better.

you know chicken breast, boneless, skinless, on super super super sale. i'm talking twice a year prices, is 1.98$. even bone in isnt 98 cents. you can get a whole chicken for 98 cents a pound though with some careful shopping around.

the one that bothered me the most was the milk. skim milk hasnt been 2$ a gallon since 1990.

oh and fuck you strawberrys arent 2$ per lb

I know it depends where you are but making food really is cheaper than junk food. I live in Canada and food is generally more expensive than the US. Stuff like fresh chicken breasts are definitely not $1 a lb up here but you can get a 10lb bag of frozen ones for $10 at some of the club stores (I've done it a bunch of times). You usually can get chicken thigh/legs at about a buck ten a piece and pork chops are always cheap. The small neighbourhood store where I work PT sells produce. Strawberries are frequently $2 a box (about 1lb) and there is always a good selection of cheap veggies or stuff on the mark-down rack if you are really broke. If you know where to shop and are willing to take the time, basically the same it takes to drive to KFC or wait for delivery, and cook your own food it is way cheaper. If you cook enough for a few meals at once, easy stuff like pasta or chilli makes fast food a waste of time and money. Cook smart, eat smart and fuck the mega-corporations that want to make you fat!!
PS. I am not a vegan hippy tree hugger, I'm your run of the mill kind of guy.
