only 2nd rope i saw is one going down, not up. even if functional, definitely not the direction one wants to fall.

yeah so the 2nd rope goes down to point that he last set an ice anchor into, so the fall is still quite big, but it's not to the base of the mountain, that's why the rope goes down (how could he attach a rope above if he hasn't made it there yet). Probably need to read up about climbing to understand how this works. Still - the fall to the last anchor or draw he put in would have been a good 15 odd feet so maybe a 30 foot free fall to an ice anchor - no thanks :)
