It is not exactly great love for each other and being devoted to traditions that make few generations of the family live together! It is simply the impossibility of moving out - apartments, moreover houses, are very expensive, the interest on loans is far from what you are used to, not to mention the salary is a lot - and I mean A LOT lower.
And I don't think that anyone has really been keeping plastic bags now, that they have been available for the last 20 years. And yes, it is not only about Russia, it's about Ukraine as well. Not to mention many things were obviously left out :)
