I have a dachshund and chocolate lab trained the same way. it just takes time and patience. Luckily the dogs learn from each other as much as you. So it's not so much a herding dog discipline thing. Dachshunds can be a handful to the inexperienced and labs are just plain goofy. So it's all in how you handle them. Never treat them like little furry humans. When my dogs come in the house, they know to sit on the rug by the door until invited further. Then they know when they can get out of the dog bed or come into our lap. It takes a lot of patience but its very rewarding for you and your dog.
