it's more than scary. 30+ climbers just lost their lives due to fumes or such.

This sight would scare me to the bones. If the ash is hot enough, it will incinerate the victims. Cooler ash will burn the victims to death in a slower way, the hot fumes will burn the lungs. Even cool ash is dangerous. Mixed with the moist in the lungs, it will turn into something similar to wet cement, suffocating the victim.
