After "Top Gun", McGillis played a lawyer in Oscar-winning drama "The Accused" (1988). Her acting career had a revival in the '00s, when she played Mrs Robinson in a stage version of "The Graduate" in 2004, and in 2007 she joined the cast of "The L Word" for its fifth season. She has been married twice and has two children. In 2009, she  came out as a lesbian and was in a civil union with Melanie Leis from 2010 to 2012.
