The chemist Eugene Schueller was both the founder of the L'Oreal company and the inventor of the modern sunscreen, which was released in 1936. Though there are also some who credit Milton Blake, an Australian chemist, with producing the first sunburn cream in his kitchen in the early 1930's. Either way, one of these gents is to thank for a lot of us having a lot less skin cancer than we would otherwise.
