It was just 11-year-old Maggie Goldenberger playing dress up with her friends. She found an ugly vest and added her retainer for maximum goofs. The photo was unknown until about 2012, when a complete stranger uploaded the photo from her Myspace to Reddit.
Goldenberger is now a 26-year-old nurse in Phoenix and she is still shocked how popular her school-time photo is through all these years.
“My eyes just get wide and I say, out loud, ‘This is so f*cking weird,’ ” she told Vanity Fair.
“It was a middle schooler’s perspective of what funny is, so I’m always surprised when adults are such fans,” she said. “It’s essentially making fun of a nerdy girl for being excited about books. . . . So what? I’m always baffled that it still comes up three years later.”
