Jim Carrey: Janitor
When he was just 12 years old, Carrey’s family went through hard times and had to live out of their van. To help, he first worked at a factory. Later he went on to work 8-hour shifts as a janitor after going to school all day.
Tina Fey: YMCA receptionist
The job included swiping cards, folding towels and getting there at 5:30 A.M. She also took courses at night.
Emma Stone: Dog bakery employee
While auditioning for roles, Stone worked at Three Dog Bakery in Los Angeles. The canine treats they sold included dog poptarts and ‘pupcakes’.
Hugh Jackman: Party clown
During his early years trying to make it big, Jackman was ‘Coco the clown’ at children’s parties. He didn’t have any party tricks and therefore wasn’t much of a hit with the kids.
Jennifer Hudson: Burger King employee
This was Hudson’s first and only ‘real’ job that didn’t involve performing. She would offer to sing to customers coming around the drive-thru over the ordering intercom.
Jennifer Aniston: Telemarketer
The ‘Friends’ star worked as a telemarketer when she first moved to L.A. to pursue acting. Apparently, she totally sucked at it and would apologize profusely to the people she called and hang up if they were angry.
Chris Pratt: Bubba Gump Shrimp Waiter
Named “Gumper of the year” for being such a good waiter, it was at this restaurant that Pratt found his big break. He caught the eye of a director who asked him if he could act and he moved to L.A. four days later. He was living out of a van in Maui at the time.
Amy Adams: Hooter’s waitress
Starting off as a hostess right out of high school, Adams eventually graduated from the polo and became a waitress to save money for school. If you’re wondering what a college-age Amy Adams looks like in Hooter’s uniform, I am too. Sadly, I could not find any pictures in existence. We’ll just leave it up to the imagination.
Danny Devito: Hairdresser
Devito has fond memories of his time working as a hairdresser. When he wasn’t at the salon, he would occasionally trim the hair of dead people before their funerals. He’s joked that they were the only ones who didn’t have complaints.
Ellen DeGeneres: Lots of stuff
After dropping out of the University of New Orleans to pursue her dreams of comedy, Ellen basically did a little bit of everything. The list includes shampooing at a hair salon, working as an employment counselor, painting houses, bartending, working retail and selling hoover vacuums door-to-door.
James Franco: McDonald’s drive-thru worker
Franco credits McDonald’s with helping him perfect his accents for roles, as he would practice different ones while working the drive-thru mic. He is also thankful for the free burgers he occasionally got to eat that would have otherwise been thrown away.
Jenna Fischer: Long John Silver’s Cashier
This was Fischer’s first job as a teenager. Her parents taught her that if she wanted something, she’d have to earn the money for it herself.
Madonna: Dunkin’ Donuts worker
Not only did Madonna work at a donut chain, but was in fact fired from her position. The reason? She sprayed filling all over a customer. The guy probably had it coming, but I do wonder if he ever realized the person who glazed him down one time turned into fucking Madonna.
John Hamm: Softcore porn set dresser
According to Hamm, working in softcore porn is quite depressing for everyone involved. His job mostly involved moving around cameras and ashtrays on sets.
