Watchmen (2009)
With a 7 year age difference between mother and daughter Silk Spectres, make-up and special effects helped to age Carla Gugino to help sell the idea of her as the mother of Malin Akerman.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
Cher plays the mother of Meryl Streep’s character (I don’t know their names and refuse to even look it up, any information I learn about this movie is poison in my brain), but Cher is only 3 years older than Streep.
The X-Files (1993)
Only a year difference between David Duchovny’s Agent Mulder and Mulder’s mother played by Rebecca Toolan.
Blue Bloods (2010)
Tom Selleck could have aged, I wouldn’t know because all I see if that amazing mustache. His father on the show, Len Cariou, is only 7 years older than Selleck.
The Munsters (1964)
To land the role as the Grandfather of the Munsters family Al Lewis actually lied about his age, claiming he was 13 years older than he was. Which is a reasonable fear, seeing that he is actually younger than Yvonne De Carlo who would be playing his daughter.
Golden Girls (1985)
Bea Arthur plays Dorothy. Estelle Getty plays her mother Sophia. I play it every night before I go to sleep. Although Getty looks older, Arthur is actually one year her senior.
Back to the Future (1985)
So these two are the same age, which makes sense cause he goes back in time 30 years where she spends most of the movie as the same age as Marty. But she also played the 1985 mother, which they could have easily recast for the 30-seconds she was on screen.
Blow (2001)
Johnny Depp is 5 years older than his mother played by Rachel Griffiths.
Footloose (1984)
John Lithgow is only 12 years older than his daughter played by Lori Singer. Maybe dancing led to him having a kid at 12 and that’s why he’s so against it.
Riding in Cars with Boys (2001)
Drew Barrymore at age 26 plays both a 15-year-old and a 36-year-old version of her character, and the best part is her 18-year-old son is actually 2 years older than her in real life.
Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Who would have guessed they chose another mid-20s actor to play a teenager, but kudos for hiring an actor who might actually be the right age for the mother of a high schooler at 38.
Star Trek (2009)
The one and true version of Star Trek (I’m just messing with you guys, I know someone will kill me for saying that) rebooted Spock and his momma with only a 6 year age difference. Granted, she was a human and he is half Vulcan, so maybe they grow up faster and just kind of plateau at that age for a couple hundred years. I don’t know, let the nerds figure it out.
The Vampire Diaries (2009)
Lily Salvatore as a mother of a high schooler wouldn’t be all that bad considering she’s 33 (teen moms and stuff), but when the 17-year-old is played by a 27-year-old, they might as well be husband/wife.
That being said, they’re all vampires I assume. So they get a pass for immortality.
Alexander (2004)
Sometimes I forget about this movie, and it makes me just a tiny bit happier. With only a year difference between the two, Angelina Jolie and Colin Farrell are a shit choice to play mother and son.
Mean Girls (2004)
Love of my life Rachel McAdams plays a high school student at age 24, and her mother, played by Amy Poehler, is only 7 years older.
Glass (2019)
Charlayne Woodard plays the mother of Samuel L. Jackson’s Mr. Glass. However, our boy Sammy Jackson is actually 5 years older than Woodard. This one isn’t fair, because Jackson does not age. He is an immortal wizard and will rule us all one day.
