After the spectacular thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, expectations for another film were high. However, Netflix really let us down when they released this disappointing space thriller with too many unstable ideas, making it the worst in the series.

Game Night

Game Night looked like an average action-comedy at best, but surprisingly gave us a lot of laughs. On top of that, it was a great action movie filled with well-choreographed action scenes and clever surprises that kept you guessing.

Searching

If you’re like me, you didn’t even want to watch the trailer for Searching after finding out it’s another gimmick movie where everything takes place on a computer screen. But after hearing its praise, I had to give it a try. And good thing I did, because it may be one of the best “missing daughter” movies I’ve ever seen. Every time you think you’ve figured out what the daughter is hiding, you’re thrown for another loop.

A Wrinkle In Time

42% isn’t the worst score in the world, but with the award-winning cast and budget the film was given, it should have been a sure thing. One reviewer said you have to see the film with a child in order to see its wonder through their eyes. Well, I don’t know a child. So I couldn’t tell you if that’s true. But I can tell you that for adults watching, it’s the worst hour and 50 minutes of your life.

Upgrade

Most people hadn’t heard of Upgrade, let alone saw a trailer of it. But that was half the fun – the film took you on a ride you weren’t prepared for. Because of that, I won’t give you too much detail. All you need to know is that it’s a well-choreographed action movie with a distinctly cool style that any sci-fi action fan should see.

Creed II

Everyone loved Creed, but problems with pre-production worried people if Creed II would be a trainwreck, or even make its release date. A month after Sylvester Stallone was announced as the director, he was replaced because the producers wanted “a millennial director.” However, as soon as it was released, all those concerns were gone. The film is a satisfying continuation of the franchise.

Mortal Engines

Okay, no one was expecting Mortal Engines to win any Oscars, but like any epic action movie, it should’ve been a hit at the box-office. It’s based on a successful Young Adults franchise about mobile cities trying to survive, and was produced by Peter Jackson. Yet, the writing and character work was so weak, it destroys the movie.

Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again

Making a sequel ten years later can be risky, especially with a musical. Fans wanted to hear their favorite songs again, but you can’t just rehash everything from the first film. Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again struck a perfect balance of the old and new. Through all the flashbacks, it felt like a fun heartwarming film instead of a money-grabbing soulless sequel. Cough *Transformers* Cough.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

For most movies, that isn’t a bad score. But for a Star Wars film, it’s horrible. Solo is easily the worst film in the franchise. In fact, it bombed so hard at the box-office that Disney announced they wouldn’t be releasing a Star Wars movie every year like they had planned. Which is probably for the best.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

There have been so many Spider-Man movies that yet another one seemed to be nothing more than a money grab. But to everyone’s surprise, they knocked it out of the park. Despite how played out it is, they found a way to make Spider-Man feel fresh and new. Everyone I know who’s seen Into the Spider-Verse has said it’s easily one of their favorite movies of the year. Myself included.

There are bad movies, and there are movies so terrible it feels like they were actively trying to be awful. A biopic about an infamous gangster should not have been boring. But the film is so dull, and John Travolta’s performance is so bizarre, that it actually has a ZERO percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s honestly impressive how terrible it is.
