#1 is totally utterly b@#$$%t. By adding the screw you are introducing inaccuracies, not to mention that if you are measuring trimmings or pre-painted material you will ruin it. Yes, it is handy if you need to measure from a crew or nail, but any good tape measure has tiny spikes on the lip that grips when you measure.

The person who started these false "correct ways of doing things" is an absolute d@#$$%s.
Pots come with a built-in spoon rest to keep your cooking area clean.
Even if you might have thought that pots and frying pans are made to be hung up, the holes on their handles actually serve 2 purposes. To hold your spoon while cooking and to hang the pots in your kitchen.
