#1 is totally utterly b@#$$%t. By adding the screw you are introducing inaccuracies, not to mention that if you are measuring trimmings or pre-painted material you will ruin it. Yes, it is handy if you need to measure from a crew or nail, but any good tape measure has tiny spikes on the lip that grips when you measure.

The person who started these false "correct ways of doing things" is an absolute d@#$$%s.
Drink lids double as drink coasters.
In the case that you don’t want to use the tiny sip hole to have your coffee or cold drink, you can use the lid from your to-go cup as a coaster.
