Deadwood (2004-2006)

Cost/episode: $4.5 million at the time; $6.11 after inflation

Given it’s period setting, this was an expensive production for HBO. As well, behind the scenes drama and other issues helped the cost balloon as well. Hence, it’s cancellation after 3 seasons, despite its awesomeness.
