It's called theater. It's called acting. The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz wasn't played by a real lion, either.

In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, there was only a 12-year age gap between onscreen father and son Sean Connery and Harrison Ford.
Ford was 46 at the time, while Connery was 58.
