It's called theater. It's called acting. The Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz wasn't played by a real lion, either.

Exactly...
In Carrie, Sissy Spacek was 26 when she played a 16-year-old. In reality, she was only two years younger than Betty Buckley, who played her gym teacher.
Spacek was born in 1949, and Buckley was born in 1947.
