Follow your training at your local dive school before your holiday. Expect it to take more than 2 days. Some students take a year to feel comfortable, some never do. In most cases the costs won't differ much and u can usually use their gear for a while during training.
I've seen the longer version of this video and a lot went wrong around the victim. You could see her panicking well before the guide acted. Lots of bubbles, erratic movement, vertical position, etc.
The guide should be trained to recognize this but it takes him 30sec from the first moments you could see her panicking in that video. That guide should be banned. Plain and simple.
This diver should have never have gotten in this position and I feel sorry for her.
Panic is a strange thing. You can't force it away when it happens. You can only hope your training was good enough to prevent it.
