@Mistake it has nothing to do with the gag reflex. It's because a few people can just let their throats hang open while pouring liquids straight down, as if through an open pipe. I had a fraternity brother who could do it; he explained it clearly, but none of us could duplicate it. However, he used to have contests with a certain sorority girl who was the only other person we knew of in our Greek system at school who could do it. It's an unusual ability; very few people can open their throats that way.

@Shark I'm a little old to be worshipping this as something to strive for in life, but it's not the intake of it which is disgusting; it's whether the person drinks one or two, of ir they drink until they become stupidly drunk. It's the behavior afterward which is either disgusting or not. Ironically, neither of the two persons I knew who could do this was a drunk. There was never a problem of any kind with either of them drinking too much. As for the rest of us, well, some of us were a little less well behaved when we drank.
