In 1953, after filming Niagara, Monroe became one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood. By this time, she and her makeup artist had come up with “Marilyn’s signature makeup” —dark, curved eyebrows, pale skin, and shiny red lips. In a review of Niagara, the New York Times noted that although Monroe wasn’t the perfect actress at the time, she could be seductive, even when she was just walking around.
